This is a replacement Schneiders gas solenoid for an EL10 and it directly fits to the gas-water valve assembly where the existing one is mounted. The Schneiders gas solenoid is what helps push the gas up into the heat exchanger allowing the ignition sequence to be completed. Is very easy to install and will require no modifications to the water heater.
